Church History
East Cumberland Avenue Baptist Church was organized on November 18, 1903, under the name of Middlesboro View Baptist Church. The original building was located on East Lothbury Avenue in Middlesboro
In 1905, the church joined the East Concord Association, and in 1907, became a member of the Bell County Baptist Association. On June 18, 1912 the church adopted the name Second Baptist Church and kept that name until October 1, 1938 when the church congregation moved to the corner of 11th street and Cumberland and changed the name to East Cumberland Avenue Baptist Church. The new sanctuary was built primarily through the fundraising efforts of the dedicated Women's Missionary Union Group.
In 1958, an educational building in the shape of an "L" was added to the sanctuary. In 1974, an elevator and ramp was installed for our elderly and physically challenged. In 1979, the church was the first in the area to start a televison ministry. In 1996, the churched purchased adjoining property and expanded the parking area. In 2000, an additional track of land was purchased for future expansion.
